Key takeaways
- Epic’s weekly free games usually switch over on Thursdays at 8:00 AM PT (11:00 AM ET).
- Claim the game and it stays in your library, even if you never install it.
- Only claim through store.epicgames.com or the official launcher. “Free V-Bucks” or giveaway links are scams.
The Epic Games Store has been giving away PC games every week for years. Claiming one takes a minute. Here’s how to do it properly, and how to stay away from the fake sites that copy the giveaway.

Step by step
- Go to store.epicgames.com/free-games (type it yourself or use the Epic Games Launcher).
- Sign in to your Epic account.
- Open the game marked Free Now and click Get.
- On the checkout screen, check that the total is $0.00, then click Place Order.
- Open your Library in the launcher to confirm it’s there.
You don’t need to install the game now. Once it’s claimed, you can download it whenever you like.
Secure your account first
A library full of free games is worth protecting. In your Epic account settings, turn on two-factor authentication (an authenticator app, SMS or email). Use a unique password, and never share login codes with anyone who messages you.
Spotting scams
- Epic never asks for your password through Discord, social DMs or “verification” sites.
- Real freebies show $0.00 at checkout and never need a card.
- Look at the address bar. The only real store is on epicgames.com.

Don’t miss a week
We post every confirmed giveaway in our weekly free games roundup. Some Prime Gaming games are also redeemed on Epic. See our Prime Gaming list. Before you download a game, check whether your PC can run it with our system requirements guide.
