Pre-release article based on official SEGA, Atlus and Nintendo information. We haven’t played the Switch 2 version yet.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is the fantasy RPG from Atlus’s Studio Zero, the team behind Persona 3, 4 and 5. It won Best RPG at The Game Awards 2024. Now it’s coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at a lower price than the original release.
Editions and prices (US)
- Standard Edition, $39.99: digital, or physical as a game-key card.
- Guidebook Edition, $49.99 (digital): adds a digital strategy guide, artbook, soundtrack and costume sets.
- Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary Edition, $69.99: adds all eight costume and battle music sets plus the Atlus 35th history book and best-of soundtrack apps.
Nintendo’s listing says costumes and battle music apply only during command battles in dungeons and on the results screen. They don’t show up in towns or cutscenes.

Game-key card: what it means
A game-key card doesn’t hold the game. It’s a key that lets you download it. You’ll need the full download (Nintendo estimates 62.1 GB) and the card in the console to play. Switch 2 storage fills up quickly, so see our microSD Express guide.
Pre-order bonus
Digital pre-orders include the Archetype EXP Chest Set (10 Hero’s Incenses, 5 Hero’s Fruits) and the Adventurer’s Journey Pack (30,000 Reeve and some healing and battle items). Nintendo lists the deadline as Nov 11, 2026 at 8:59 PM PT.

Supported modes and languages
TV, tabletop and handheld modes are supported, for a single player. Voices are in English or Japanese, and subtitles come in many languages. It also supports Nintendo Account family-group lending. It’s out the week before GTA VI, so plan your backlog with our release calendar.
